Air traffic is measured in several different ways - how do we arrive at the traffic numbers?

Terminal passengers are the number of passengers to and from an airport. If a person arrives by plane and continues traveling by plane, the person will be counted twice at this airport.

The number of passengers arriving by plane but not entering the airport, meaning they remain seated on the plane, both upon arrival and departure, are not counted as terminal passengers but are in transit. This is done the same way at all airports. If you sum up the terminal passengers at all Avinor airports, the same passengers are counted multiple times.
