Air traffic controllers are responsible for aircraft in many phases of a flight, such as movement at the airport, departure, flight through airspace, approach, and landing. In all of these phases of flight, air traffic controllers must ensure the safe and efficient flow of air traffic by instructing pilots on what altitudes, directions, and speeds they should fly.
This requires strong multitasking ability, focus, accuracy, good decision-making skills, and good teamwork skills.

The workplace depends on the type of control they perform. Some work in control towers at the airport, while others work with approach and departure control or in area control, which monitors air traffic in larger airspace between airports.
