Our contractors have carried out well over 200 large and small blasts since the first one was triggered on Leap Day, February 29, 2024. The largest explosion produced over 65,000 cubic meters of rock, the smallest just a few cubic meters. If the wind direction is unfavorable with onshore winds from the south and southwest, the blasts can be heard very well over large parts of the Bodø peninsula.

We understand that this can be uncomfortable and frightening for both young and old residents of Bodø, but this work is absolutely necessary to carry out in order to build a new airport of this size. Avinor was tasked in 2017 by the Ministry of Transport to continue the work of planning the relocation of Bodø Airport. This was done with the intention of facilitating urban development by freeing up areas near the city center at the existing airport. The project should result in reduced operational CO2 emissions from aviation in Bodø. This includes emissions from operations and transport to and from the airport, as well as from the operators. The project should also seek to minimize emissions from construction activities, as well as solutions and material choices. 

Certification:
The terminal building is planned to be certified according to BREEAM (Very Good).
