If you need to contact us regarding the third runway, you can do so here.

Many of the questions related to the third runway must be answered by your municipality:

How we work to reduce noise

Oslo Airport is actively working to minimize noise impact from aircraft and helicopter traffic for residents in the airport’s surrounding areas.

The main source of noise at the airport comes from departing and landing aircraft. Significant efforts are made to reduce the number of residents exposed to aircraft noise, while also decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.

You can find the current noise zone map here.

Future scenarios for a possible third runway based on SINTEF’s noise mapping can be found here.

Approach and departure
Approach and departure to the airport are conducted in such a way that residential areas are as shielded as possible. Information and dialogue are also crucial to ensure a predictable situation for those affected by noise.

Developments in navigation technology have enabled more precise and flexible arrival and departure procedures. A system of curved approaches tailored to population patterns in the airport’s surrounding areas has been introduced, while keeping the approach routes as short as possible.

Monitoring
Oslo Airport has an advanced noise and trajectory monitoring system that records and stores noise data for all flights to and from the airport. Each month, a report is produced showing statistics and describing the traffic.

Together with forecasts for future traffic development and expected changes in the aircraft fleet, the reporting provides a basis for calculating aircraft noise zones and aircraft noise zone maps for the coming years.

Radar data from the noise and trajectory monitoring system provides the necessary foundation for ensuring that aircraft comply with noise regulations.
