R&D and Innovation in Avinor
Collaboration on innovation
Aviation is part of a larger picture within connectivity and mobility in society, where significant changes and new opportunities may arise in the future. It also faces large and demanding technological shifts. Avinor welcomes collaboration with startups and environments, academia, research and educational institutions, and public and private enterprises. Together we can find the good solutions that increase innovation, sustainability, and efficiency in the aviation of the future.
We want innovation
It can be in the form of new technology, a new way to perform a process, or a new service. For innovation is not just about creating something new, but also about creating value. We are focused on utilizing resources in the best possible way and finding smart solutions that allow us to deliver a stable and secure infrastructure for Norway for a long time to come.
Our owner wants innovation
There is both a political desire and will for Norway to take a leading role in sustainable innovation within aviation, which can help us achieve climate goals. A nationwide infrastructure also contributes to settlement and employment opportunities across our country. Norway - the main arena for electrification in aviation Avinor and the societal mission
The aviation industry desires innovation
Norway is a high-tech country, with both expertise in sustainable and innovative solutions for the future and the political will to invest in it. Several of the innovation projects at Avinor have global potential, and the experiences and expertise developed in connection with them are attractive internationally.

Safety, efficient operations, and increased value creation
Within this line, we work to leverage innovation and technology development to achieve a benefit in the form of increased safety, more efficient operations, or increased value creation in other areas.
Remote towers and autonomous snowplows are two examples of innovative solutions where Avinor can achieve benefits in daily operations.

Climate-friendly solutions and new business opportunities for the future of aviation
Future climate-friendly solutions can also mean new business opportunities. Creating new revenue involves both developing commercial earnings and generating new income in other parts of the business.
We already see good examples of this, including in the drone project autonomous sensors for efficient airport operations in collaboration with Norce and Opscom, and in the work on a new baggage solution at Oslo Airport. We are working to develop more such projects.

Through collaboration with stakeholders from various fields, Avinor aims to increase the pace of innovation in aviation and contribute to sustainability, efficient business models, and leveraging opportunities in new technology.
