No, unfortunately. It is not possible to retake the tests. If you have participated in the entrance tests through Naviair (Denmark) or LFV (Sweden), you also cannot take the entrance tests through Avinor Flysikring as the Scandinavian countries use the same tests.
No, unfortunately. You must have completed high school when you apply and be able to attach the diploma that confirms you have achieved general university admissions certification.
Unfortunately. It is not sufficient to present a copy of the diploma. We have already received the copy or electronic diploma as an attachment in the application, so we do not need a new copy. The purpose is to verify the copy against the original. If you cannot find your original diploma, you must contact the school. They will be able to issue a duplicate that we recognize as an "original" document.
We follow the same point calculation as Samordna opptak. The average is calculated from all the grades on the diploma but without any extra points of any kind. That means you do not get any extra points for age, science subjects, language, gender, specialization, folk high school, military service, etc.
It depends. We operate with one decimal place: 4.0 as an absolute requirement. If you have 3.95, this is raised to 4.0.
Yes, it also applies to air traffic controller education. You must have an average grade of 4.0 or better in the entrance qualification subjects (subject requirement). Remember to include documentation of 5 years of education/practice. See http://www.samordnaopptak.no/info/ for more information.
Yes, we accept secondary diplomas (competency certificates) that show improved grades. You must also include the initial diploma. You must have improved your grades by the application deadline. Late submission of competency certificates/diplomas after the application deadline is not accepted.

Those who pass the entrance exams during the spring and are offered a place of study can initially expect to start their education in the fall of the same year.
The education is covered by Avinor Air Navigation Services, meaning that Avinor Air Navigation Services pays for tuition and materials. The education is very costly as it includes a lot of simulator training, which is particularly resource-intensive. This is covered by Avinor Air Navigation Services while the students themselves must cover expenses for housing, food, etc. The education is approved by the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund as a 9-month program on regular terms. Air traffic control students receive a paid engagement during the last part of the education, the internship period in Norway.
No, unfortunately. Individual requests or special needs will not be considered when distributing internship placements (OJT unit) or the location of mandatory service.
When the mandatory service (3 years) is over, one can apply for a transfer to another unit if desired. When one is able to move depends on the staffing situation at the current unit and if there is a vacant position at the unit applied to.
During Education
Air traffic controller trainees are temporarily employed by Avinor Flysikring AS when they begin the practical part and receive a salary during their education.
The salary is 415,100 NOK as of 04/01/2024. The salary is intended to cover all expenses related to the education, such as living expenses and travel expenses.
For the basic part, it is possible to apply to Lånekassen under the usual conditions for students abroad, while Avinor covers the tuition fees.
The training mainly takes place during the day, but some inconvenient work hours must be expected. The temporary employment lasts until the training is completed and the initial authorization is passed. The temporary employment is terminated if the trainee does not pass the necessary exams or is otherwise deemed unqualified for the service. The same applies if the training must be interrupted for other valid reasons.
Salary after Education
Generally, an air traffic controller has a good income, with a starting salary for an air traffic controller as of 04/01/2024 being 601,000 NOK. Over time, the annual salary will increase depending on the unit one works at and seniority.
Mandatory Service
After completing the education, there is a three-year mandatory service at the unit that Avinor determines at any given time.
