Tonje leads the technology heads

Is it tempting to work with the development of technology that means a lot to a lot of people? "With us, you get a job that is both critical to society and ensures that almost 50 million passengers get safely up in the air and down again," says Tonje Berntsen.

She is head of the Airport Development section. Here, dedicated developers and architects work to develop the systems and services that make Norwegian airports among the world's most efficient.

There are many people who do not think of Avinor as a technology company, but we very much are. Technology technology is absolutely crucial to meet the challenges we have ahead of us to ensure continued safe aviation, have efficient airports and, not least, achieve our goals of fossil-free aviation by 2050," Tonje elaborates     .

Advanced systems

You may not have given it much  thought. But when you travel from Oslo Airport, or one of the other 42 Avinor airports in Norway, there are many systems that talk to each other to ensure that you have a smooth and good travel experience. Just think about how quickly you check in at the machines and drop off your luggage  . And as you pass through securityyour luggage flies at 14 kilometers per hour in an intricate baggage system, before ending up on the right trolley, on its way to the right flight.

"Behind all the functionality is advanced technology that is critical for the efficient operation of our airports. And we are constantly improving; rightnow we are working on integrating a completely new luggage system, where our systems make it possible to know exactly where your suitcase is at all times, says Tonje.

Freedom to explore

Tonje is fairly new to Avinor, but has nevertheless made a name for herself with her trust-based leadership style. She is keen to make it possible for all the talented people who work in the section to have the freedom to explore new technologies, develop and spar with each other, as part of being able to deliver value to Avinor and its customers.

We have a very good working environment, and I am concerned that everyone should get the support they need to do their job as well as possible. I think that will be even more important in the future, when we bring in many new talents. New employees come with completely new skills and new knowledge that we need to become even better, in collaboration with the skilled employees we have, and the unique expertise they possess.

Skøyen and Gardermoen

Avinor's head office is located at Skøyen in Oslo, but it is planned that you can also work in the offices at the airport.

"It's nice to be able to vary your workplace, if you want, and even though we don't have to be at the airport to do our job, I think there's something very special about the atmosphere at Oslo Airport. And then I get very proud when I see that all our systems work as they should, and that people get a good travel experience with us. I hope all our new employees will also experience that pride," says Tonje Berntsen.
