Anders develops for the aviation of the future

Is there anything more exciting than being involved in developing systems for the aviation of the future? "We are constantly working on new issues, a lot of experimentation and constant learning. There is never a dull day at work," says Anders Iver Gjermo.

Develops safety in the air

Anders Iver is a developer at Avinor, with his workplace at the control centre in Røyken. One of the things that motivates him most in his job is the exciting and extremely socially critical tasks. He is working on the development of the main system that controls all air traffic in Norway.

To do this, the developers at Avinor must integrate two systems; a well-tested and established system together with a new and modern one. Simply explained, this airspace control system ensures that there is no chaos in the air, that all aircraft have their "corridor" between the airports, it helps pilots avoid storms and reduce fuel consumption. And not least, that air traffic is carried out safely and efficiently.

"What's exciting about this job is that we have technology that is almost 50 years old, which will speak to technology that is completely new and constantly evolving. It's great fun!

Close contact with air traffic controllers

A large part of the job is to understand what the users, namely the air traffic controllers, need. The air traffic controllers are located in three control centers in Norway, one in Bodø, one in Stavanger, and one deep in the mountains in Røyken.

"We have to adopt some of the same mindset as the air traffic controllers, so that we understand how the system should be used. Therefore, part of the training for new employees takes place in the control centre, together with the air traffic controllers.
